I don't kow why I find it difficult to conform to regularity and routines. Can you believe that I can't even wake up at the same time in the morning? But, recently I've been learning from my seniors at work the art of appreciating the comforts of routine, regularity and familiarity. So when at Shangri-la Plaza, I reckoned to dine at the time-tested Kettle instead of other new food joints that I could try.
Ironically, what I expect to be ordinary turned out not so ordinary as I spotted two familiar groups having lunch there as well. Talk about coincidence!
Food
Salads
♥ Smoked Salmon Salad (289 php)
As a healthy portion of my meal, I ordered the Smoked Salmon Salad. I don't intend to elaborate on how I love greens and smoked salmon. Just finding out how I find eating salads like this is comforting is surprising enough for many.
Soups & Appetizers
Clam Chowder (259 php)
Apart from salads, I love soups. Being easily cold, soups have always been something that brings me comfort. Among all cream-based soups, Clam Chowder is my second favorite. Kettle makes them hearty and flavorful just the way I like it.
Main Course
♥ Buttermilk Fried Chicken (559 php)
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I never thought I'd like Buttermilk Fried Chicken before I encountered one from Kettle. I bet I'd come back even more just for it.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant: Yakiniku Dinner (Shangrila East Wing)
Metro Manila, Philippines
Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant is a Japanese Yakiniku concept that began in the Japan in 1996 and has now over 650 stores world wide.
The interiors were really nice and inviting.
After ordering, they prepared the charcoal grill.
Food
Salad
The Tofu and Avocado Salad is one of the best Japanese-inspired salad we've tried. The avocado cubes and creamy sesame dressing is wonderful.
The Horenso Salad is good because we loved the crunchy garlic flakes.
Of course, the highlight of our dinner is the Yakiniku. They have two dipping sauces for the Yakiniku.
Vegetables
Selected Beef by Gyu-Kaku
For the Harami, we could choose between 4 blends: Tare, Shio, Miso and Spicy. We opted for the Tare which delivered a sweet and salty flavor. It is a soy marinade with ginger, miso, fruit juice garlic and sesame oil.
Since the serving portion is small, we also ordered another Harami in Miso. It was a red sweetened miso and soy bean paste.
Chicken
We also had the Chicken Thigh Fillet in Tare and Shio. I guess we loved the Tare because we liked it even with chicken meat. The Shio is a slightly sweetened white soy sauce with salted sake, garlic and ginger. I think it's good if the meat is special.
Seafood
The best among our order is the Norweigan Salmon Foil. We ordered 2 of these!
Noodles
The Ishiyaki Udon (Chicken) is delicious. It was exploding with tasty goodness and the texture of the noodles is chewy.
Desserts
For dessert, we had the Milk Pudding. It is an interesting creamy dessert. We love it!
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Our Gyu-Kaku Yakiniku experience is good. The quality of the meats and other ingredients is superb. We also liked their sauce blends. The only drawback is the price and small serving portions.

Ganso-Shabuway: Japanese Hot Pot Shabu-Shabu (Shangrila Plaza East Wing)
Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines
The family has never tried Japanese Shabu-shabu or hotpot ever. So looking forward to try this whole new experience, we availed of the 50% off voucher for Ganso-Shabuway.
Upon entry, little sister and I were quickly ushered to our reserved table and our orders were taken.
Food
Choose Your Broth
Soon, the hotpot with half and half was
prepared. We had half of the Traditional Seaweed Broth which is a basic seaweed and water broth and half the Original Spicy Miso Broth Spicy which appealed more to me because it was more flavorful. The seaweed broth was so light
that it hardly had any flavor. Later on, I only found out from my mom
that we should have cooked all our meat there to add flavor to the
broth. We didn't know that because we were not advised like they were.
My
sister tried mixing the Traditional Seaweed Broth and Original Spicy Miso Broth Spicy which worked out for her.
Shabuway Original Sets (Served w/ white rice and vegetable plate A)
Minutes later, our Vegetable Deluxe Plate was served with two
kinds of dipping sauces.
But, where's the meat, bowls and utensils?
Not knowing it would take so long, I already placed the vegetables on
the pot. After many many follow ups the Meyer Natural Angus Petite arrived so we placed that
in the pot.
Everything was starting to be cooked but our utensils and bowls seems to be taking too long. After a few more follow ups, it finally arrived! We had to get these condiments from the other table because we weren't provided one.
Desserts
We loved the Coco Lychee Ice Cream which is essentially shaved ice with lychee and coconut bits in sweet lychee syrup. It was a refreshing dessert.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I don't think we'll dine at Ganso-Shabuway. For one, the service is terrible. Second, they indiscriminately charged 20% service charge on the basis of using vouchers. Third, the experience was nothing extra-ordinary.

1837 TWG Tea Salon & Boutique: Tea-Infused Dinner (Shangri-la East Wing)
Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines
Being tea lovers, 1837 TWG Tea Salon & Boutique has long been on our wishlist. Naturally, we're scheduled it to be on our agenda one time.
We've seen the different 1837 TWG Tea Salon & Boutique branches and we all agreed that the one in Shangrila East Wing is the best because of its wide area. And, if you're lucky like us, there was an orchestra performance that night as our musical background.
As we approached the entrance, we were immediately assisted and ushered to our table. We passed by their very enticing gift shop section, which we came back for on our way out.
Of course, 1837 TWG Tea Salon & Boutique is also famous for their macarons. This is a must buy in every visit. Before, we dined here, we've long been purchasing these. And, do note that every Macaron Day, they are offered for a discounted price.
There's a bar and a dessert chiller where you can view the cakes that are available.
And, of course, the dining area where we can pretend to be sossy like the English. It has big cushioned seats with table a table covered in super clean white linen.
Food
The Complimentary French Brioche was served crunchy on the outside and warm and soft in the inside.
Main Course
The Pan-Seared Sea Bass is a fillet of sea bass served with pumpkin risotto and asparagus drizzled with a Red Chai Tea infused cream enhanced with notes of citrus fruit. It tastes as glamorous as it sounds. Even my mom who isn't too fond of risottos was enchanted by the nice citrus taste that enhanced the light Red Chai Tea infused cream.
New Creations
The Scallops Pasta is scallops, shrimps, cherry tomatoes, shallots served with linguine pasta and a cream sauce infused with Silver Moon Tea. This is our favorite dish for the night as this was executed perfectly.
The Oven-roasted Chicken is infused with Silver Moon Tea served with spinach fettuccine and capsicum button mushrooms, shallots with tea-spiced chardonay butter cream sauce. This is a sophisticated dish which we all enjoyed.
Desserts
TWG Tea Patisserie Collection
I have to admit, chocolates cakes are my least favorite when it comes to cakes. But, my gosh this Sugar-free Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake Infused with Earl Grey Fortune is to die for! It is dark rich and bitter-sweet.
It is coated in smooth velvety chocolate ganache. Followed by cool, silky chocolate mousse cake with fudgy moist chocolate chiffon center. It is so good that I could finish this all alone in a snap.
Tea Ice Cream & Sorbets
The Earl Grey Fortune has rich notes of black tea, bergamot and chocolate ice cream. It was delicious too but the Sugar-free Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake Infused with Earl Grey Fortune gained most of the spotlight.
TWG Tea Macarons
And, of course, we bought some macarons.
We got the Napoleon Tea and Caramel, 1837 Black Tea and Blackcurrant, Matcha and Moroccan Mint Tea. But, my favorites are actually not available such as the ♥ Earl Grey Fortune & Chocolate and ♥ Bain de Roses Tea.
Tea List
Exclusive Tea Blends
The 1837 Black Tea is bold yet smooth in delivering its spiced flavors.
The Sweet France Tea is a sweet white tea rose. If you like sweet floral flavors, I recommend this.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
1837 TWG Tea Salon & Boutique is a must-try not just for tea lovers. I'm sure any foodie will find their tea-infused menu quite interesting. Everything we ordered is splendid.
